Welcome to the Family Transitions Project Web Site!
WELCOME! The Family Transitions Project (FTP) is a longitudinal study involving
more than 550
individuals and their families. The study began in 1989 and is entering its 20th year
of data collection in 2008. Nearly 95 percent of original Targets continue to
participate in the study with their romantic partners and
children. FTP has made many significant contributions to society, especially in
the areas of romantic relationships, human development, economic
hardship, and the impact one generation of parents can have on subsequent
generations of individuals and families. The study is conducted by scholars at
Iowa State University and affiliated universities.

For Participants: We're glad you're
checking out this web site, which is designed to help study participants stay
informed about their study and to provide a way for participants to get in touch
with us via the Internet. If you've visited the Transitions web site before, you'll note
that we've removed user and password requirements to make it easier and more
convenient for the study participants to access this site and stay informed. We want to assure you that your confidentiality and security
remain our top priority. No information is shared on this web site, or in any
publication related to the study, that reveals information that could lead to
identification of any participants. All study results are reported on this site
in summary form, never on an individual basis. Click here
to read about additional safeguards.
2008-2009 Status: All current and past
participants should look for the 2008-09 FTP Newsletter in their mailboxes soon.
In 2008-09, we will complete a short interview on the telephone with all
Targets. In
addition, we will ask Targets with a child in our 2 year old cohort to allow us
to visit them in their homes or complete questionnaires to be returned by mail. Targets should
contact the Project
Manager if they do not receive a pre-notification letter about the 2009-09
wave of data collection.
